Pilates

 Pilates is an exercise program developed by Joseph Pilates in the 1920s. It is very effective for developing core strength as well as improving balance, stability and flexibility in the body. Mat classes use your own body weight and occasionally small props for resistance. Our instructors are fabulous at modifications to help make Pilates successful for all bodies.

The Pilates Method can help the body in a variety of ways.  Pilates is not just for professionals and athletes, it is for everybody and at every stage of life.  This class will focus on ROM (range of motion), breathing, balance, posture, strengthening, and flexibility.  Incorporating the breath with mindful movement is essential for maintaining mobility, especially as our bodies age.  Come join the fun while lengthening and toning up your muscles without pain and with only limited repetitions.  Integrate your body and mind for relaxation and concentration.  Maximize your breathing capacity and improve your circulation while addressing the abdominals and the spinal column, which can be two of the biggest problem areas, especially as a body ages.  The class format may change from class to class depending upon the participant’s needs, abilities, and restrictions.
